If there’s time, I love to hit Venice Beach straight from landing at LAX to get acclimatized deep into those sweet Cali vibes asap. Here are some 35mm pics from last week where we did just that. xo

Cali Travelogue Part Nine: Midoil
Driving north on the I-5 from L.A. to Monterey I stumbled into the epic territory of Midoil. Just as its name would suggest, Midoil is the town at the centre of a massive swath of thirsty birds dipping their heads into the earth over and over again to the soundtrack of a steady creaking groan that might be the earth suffering in protest. It is an incredible rape of the land. This is the cost of driving. A cop rolled by to see what I was up to as I was taking photographs in the field. He left quickly though and allowed me to continue shooting. I was surprised at the lack of security in the facility what with so much liquid gold flowing through the space, but also grateful as now I get to share this eerie landscape with all of you. x
Cali Travelogue Part Eight: Apple Pie Ridge
Viola Gardens.
I had the pleasure of shooting this stellar, permaculture, drought-tolerant, landscape design by Viola Gardens at a Malibu Beach residence today. Viola introduced me to the design philosophy that is permaculture and I’m hooked. The most poetic permaculture lesson I learned was to keep a focus on the edges of things, as it is often in the space between, not in the things themselves, where new growth occurs.
Viola Gardens is growing fast! If you would like to help the business grow please write a review on Yelp or Houzz. xo
