Last Summer our ‘Strike it Rich’ yellow roses won 1st Prize at the Port Hope Fair. Last Winter the Ice Storm all but killed the 2-Year-Old rosebush of five feet in height. I scraped back the bark looking for that tender light green sign of life beneath the bark and kept on finding brown. The bush was hacked back to just one root standing. I was thinking about pulling it out. Then I found the light green sign of life on one inch of root deep in the centre. I decided to give it a chance. This Summer the ‘Strike it Rich’ roses won 1st Prize at the Roseneath Fair! Never give up on a winner. They smell even better than they look.
